What is a Patina?

A patina is the coloring of a bronze statue and the final step in the casting process. A patina is not paint but instead a chemical reaction that occurs when certain chemicals react with the metal. Unfinished bronze is actually gold in color until the patina is added. Different chemicals will produce different colors and Bronzeman specializes in creating very unique patinas. Unlike paint, a patina won't chip and will remain on the bronze sculpture even when placed outdoors.

How Are Our Bronze Statues Made?

This process has been traced back over 5,000 years and has several steps which is why our bronze sculptures take so long to cast. Lonsdale Veterans Memorial

This bronze eagle sculpture "Majesty" was purchased by Owatonna Granite and Monument for a Veterans Memorial for the City of Lonsdale, MN. It was dedicated on Friday, July 31st in honor of area veterans and military members. The massive memorial is made up of five slabs of black granite representing each branch of the U.S. Military with the bronze eagle sculpture in flight atop. Roughly 400 people attended the ceremony which was one of the proudest days in Lonsdale's history.

95th Birthday Surprise

We recently finished this bronze sculpture of a truly incredible man sitting on a bench reading an article about his company. His loving daughter-in-law commissioned us to create this sculpture for him as a surprise for his 95th birthday. He was so touched when he opened it, that it actually brought him to tears. This is truly a treasure that will remain in his family forever and was the surprise of a lifetime.
